Fire safety education

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service runs a comprehensive programme of fire and safety education for children and young people. For more information, see Schools & Colleges:

  • Crucial Crew – fire safety for children aged 10-11 years.
  • Young Fire Fighters BTEC – a formal qualification in fire safety.
  • LIFE scheme – for young people who are at risk of offending and anti-social behavior. These courses allow participants a taste of life as a firefighter, whilst encouraging self-confidence and team building

We also have a fire setter network for young people who appear to have a fascination with fire. This involves our team of trained advisors providing advice for both young people and parents or guardians. Find out more about this under 'Playing with fire?'
