Incident Summary Night Shift Saturday 14th July 2018

15th July 2018

In order to ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names, for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.


Time of call: 17:40

 Crews from Boroughbridge, Ripon and Tadcaster were called to a corn dryer on fire. Crews sourced water from a nearby river using a portable pump. They used a hose reel jet, covering jets and chimney rods to extinguish the fire.


Time of call: 18:04

Crews from York, Huntington and two crews from Acomb were called to a field of cut straw on fire. This was to 200 square metres of  stubble and cut straw. Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish this.

Falsgrave Road, Scarborough

Time of call: 18:43

Crews from Scarborough, Filey and Sherburn were called to a smell of burning in a residential premises. This was a fire in a kitchen . Our Scarborough crews used 1 hose reel jet and a pressure ventilator and breathing apparatus.  


Time of call: 18:48

A crew from Northallerton was called to a chimney fire. The crews used a triple extension ladder to gain access to the roof and a thermal imaging camera  to check for hot spots. The crew used chimney rods, small tools and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

Hensall, Selby

Time of call: 19:08

A crew from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service assisted us with extinguishing a grass fire using 1 hose reel jet.

Littlebeck, Whitby

Time of call: 19:48

Crews from Goathland and Whitby were called to a fire in the open. This was controlled burning.

Norton, Malton

Time of call: 20:07

A crew from Malton were called to a fire in the open. This was a grass fire measuring 10 metres by 5 metres believed to have been caused by youths. The crew extinguished this using a hose reel.

Stratford Way, Huntington

Time of call: 22:04

A crew from Huntington were called to a fire in some trees. This fire had been believed to have been set by youths and a member of the public extinguished this using a watering can prior to the Fire Brigade’s arrival.

Vicars Croft, Northallerton

 Time of call: 00:06

 A crew from Northallerton were called to a fire in the garden of a residential property. This was controlled burning that was unsupervised. Crews extinguished this using buckets of water.

Thorpe Willoughby, Selby

Time of call: 00:53

A crew from Selby were called to a report of a fire in the garden of a residential property. This was controlled burning and advice was given to the resident.

Rescue – Middleham

Time of call: 0153 hours 

A crew from Leyburn has removed a set of handcuffs after they became stuck on the wrist of male in his late teens. Crew used a ring cutter and the handcuffs were removed without causing injury.

False alarm – High Street, Brompton by Sawdon

Time of call: 0446 hours

A crew from Sherburn has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to an unknown fault.

Small fire – Cod Beck Reservoir

 Time of call: 0606 hours

 A crew from Northallerton has dealt with a camp fire approx. 1m by 1m which had been left unattended. Crews used buckets of water to extinguish.

 In addition to these incidents we also attended automatic fire alarm activations in York and Harrogate.
