Incident Summary Day Shift Tuesday 10th July 2018

9th July 2018

TOC 0821 – Grass Woods Lane, Grassington

Crews attended a reported small fire in Woodlands. Upon arrival the fire was found to be a supervised controlled burn. Advice was given on scene, no further action was taken.

TOC 1003 - Ouse Bank, Selby

Crews attended the scene of a reported grass fire by the river. Upon arrival at the scene crews found a grass fire measuring 20 x 10 metres. 1 hose reel jet was used to damp down the area and extinguish the fire.

TOC 1111 - Rossett Nature Reserve, Harrogate

Reports of a grass fire were received. Upon arrival crews found a 2 meter square grass fire and extinguished this using beaters and a knapsack sprayer.

TOC 1119 - Grass Wood, Grassington

Reports of further smoke seen in Grass Wood were received by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Crews attended and found a further bonfire burn in progress, measuring 6m square. The bonfire was extinguished using several tanks of water.

TOC 1133 - Gilling West, Richmond

Reports of a fire in an agricultural building were received. Crews attended to find the building, well alight. A propane cylinder was found to be present in the burning building and crews immediately commenced work to bring the fire under control. The fire was extinguished and the cylinder was made safe and then removed from the building; where it was further cooled. Fire damage was sustained to the entire building and its contents. The cause was believed to be from accidental spread of flames from a bonfire.

TOC 1148 - Church Square, Harrogate

Crews were requested to assist in releasing a member of the public who had become entrapped in a lift. The person was released from the lift without incident.

TOC 1158 – Scarborough Fire Station

A member of the public attended Scarborough Fire Station today and requested assistance to remove an ring that had become stuck on their finger. Crews assisted in removing the ring with use of ring cutters. The ring was removed successfully.

TOC 1229 – A19, East Rounton area

Fire crews attended a 3 car road traffic collision on the A19 and provided scene safety assistance only.

TOC 1233 – Holbeck Hill, Scarborough

Reports of a fire in the open were attended by crews in the Holbeck Ravine area. Upon arrival crews found the fire to be a supervised controlled burning.

TOC 1237 – Forest Drive, Colburn

Reports were received of a hedge on fire to rear of residential properties. Upon arrival crews found a hedge and fence on fire. A Hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate.

TOC 1244 – Fourth Avenue, York

Crews were called to a property with an alarm persistently sounding and Community Support Officers reporting a smell of gas from the premises. The gas board were called and the gas supply was isolated and checked. No gas leaks were found or further reported within or outside the premises.

TOC 1433 – Waterdale Park, Huntington

Crews were called to section of grassland which was on fire alongside the River Foss. Upon arrival crews found a 40 square metre section of grassland on fire. Crews used buckets of water and beaters to extinguish the fire. It is believed that the fire was caused deliberately and was reported to Police.

TOC 1539 – Embsay Reservoir, Skipton

Reports were received of fire in the Embsay Reservoir area. On arrival crews found a section of fire on moorland. Crews tackled the fire by digging the circumference to restrict the spread of fire. Fire was extinguished.

TOC 1543 – York Road, Haxby

Crews attending a residential fire** Incident ongoing

Update- Crews were called to a fire in a detached property. The fire which started on the first floor had spread to the roof of the building. Crews used hose reels jet to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

TOC 1646 – A64, Spen Common, Tadcaster

Crews were called to a stretch of the A64 where smoke was reported blowing across the carriageways. On further investigation the smoke was found to be dust from fields. No further action was taken.
