Fire in the Open Norwood

27th June 2018

Appliances from Harrogate, Summerbridge, Cookbridge and Knaresborough were called to an incident involving a fire in the open, at 23:21 on the 27th June.

On their arrival they found a large area (40x30m) of brush close to woodland on fire.

Crews used 4 main jets to fight the fire, and through their efforts managed to prevent the fire spreading to the woodland.

They remained at the scene overnight and are still in attendance this morning.

Whilst we do not yet know the cause of the fire we would like to remind people to take care if they are visiting the countryside during this hot dry spell.

Please take care to dispose of items carefully. Don't leave glass bottles lying on the ground as sunlight shining through them can cause fires, only light fires/bbqs in safe, designated areas and don't throw cigarettes out of car windows or on to the ground.

If you spot a grass, moor or woodland fire please call 999 and ask for the fire service, these fires can spread quickly and cause damage to wildlife.

28th June 11:45am Update

Crews have now left this incident, but will be carrying out revisits later today.
